Despite a good break near Zancudo, all the surfers boogie down to Pavones for its famous long break especially in the green season when it is at its zenith. The beach is a two-hour drive from Golfito by bus, less by boat. It’s a destination that focuses on surfers and where their heads are. If you’re not a surfer, it may not please you very much, although Punta Banco Reserve, six km/3.7 miles down the road, is a natural wonderland. The bed and breakfast where it is always Sunday is Casa Siempre Domingo (including breakfast and dinner). We also fancied the simple but attractive Cabinas La Ponderosa run by North Americans.
